The game celebrated its 16th birthday last year - which is a ridiculous number to think about, let alone to let sink into your aching old bones as you sit on your porch in fear of the approaching d– okay, maybe that's just us. The point is, it's been a long time, and over the years we've accrued no small number of newbies-who-are-no-longer-newbies, and the older we get, the more we treat basic RP etiquette as just a gimme.

So we thought it'd be a good idea to round up the basic principles of roleplay at Fandom High in one long post, for reference. Hopefully we'll manage to tackle all of the important stuff in this one post, but if you find something missing, let us know down below.

Step This Way... )

Hello, Fandom!

As some of you might have noticed, the yearly Academic Calendar has vanished from Fandomhigh's profile page. There is a reason for that: it has coexisted with the official Google Calendar (aka the Plot Calendar) for Fandom events for a very long time, and we've found that maintaining two calendars is both time-consuming and confusing for everyone. As such, we've decided to eliminate the Academic Calendar and move all relevant information from that calendar to the GCal for this year.

What does that mean? Well, it means that the Gcal is now your one-stop shop for all your planning needs. Keep in mind that sometimes event planning requires some internal admin discussion and some events may not make it to the calendar until they are confirmed - always check with us if you're not certain a date is free!

And... that's it. Nothing else has changed, it's just all in a new place. Questions? Comments?

Hey everyone! We want to apologize for the confusion about graduation/end of the semester dates. A few months ago when we were hammering out the end of semester events, we realized that graduation and the welcome picnic were slowly creeping earlier and earlier into the year. We decided to add an extra week of break to the end of the semester, putting graduation back in May where it belongs (May 5th), and then the welcome picnic its usual week later (May 12th). We made the changes to the Google calendar, but forgot to make the changes to the academic calendar on the fandomhigh profile. We apologize for both missing the other calendar and for not making a post explaining the date shifts. If any dates shift in the future (likely for the same reason, to put annual events on a more normal date), we’ll be sure to let you all know.

On a mostly unrelated note, we’ve been looking through some old game rules/guidelines for things that don’t really apply anymore to the game as it is exists now, and one of the things we’ve decided to do away with is the personal character limit. In the past, we’ve limited players to six on-island characters, mostly to stop new players from burning themselves out. At this point, we think you all know what you can handle, so we’re taking this restriction out. Questions? Concerns? Pie because lettuce is still too dangerous to eat?

And now it's time for sexy shirtless reminders!

- Applications for new teachers and students will be closing this Sunday, August 16th at 11:59pm Pacific!
- If you are a current teacher, townie, or alumni who is going to teach in the fall, we need your class here also by Sunday night!
- We could really use some more teachers, so if you've got a class idea, or want to app a new teacher, now would be a great time!
- If it's your first time at Fight Club, you have to fight!

Reminders ahoy!

  • If you are a current teacher, townie or alumni who is going to teach the first summer session, get your workshop stuff in over here by SUNDAY.

  • If you would like to app a new student or teacher, get your app in over here ALSO by Sunday.

  • If you would like to sign up to be a big sibling or a teaching buddy, sign up here by MAY 2nd!

  • If you are the SIX-FINGERED MAN, my name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.

Hello folks! We are done with January, which means that like the last couple of years, it's almost time for some spring cleaning! In this instance, that involves alumniland. We know it can sometimes be tough to keep your characters active once they leave the island, and yet it's also hard to let them go, which sometimes leads to characters hanging around in limbo without active play but still unable to be picked up by anyone else.

In the spirit of cleaning things up, we would like to pare down the game's character list to those characters people still want to play. There is a rule in effect (laxly enforced, because see above about how we really do know this happens; it happens to us too) that essentially gives an alumni/expat character three months of absences until they are out of the game. The characters who have been MIA for three or more months are who we're looking at here, so no need to fret over those who just haven't gotten out recently!

So: all players have about a month from now to get their long-absent alumni characters active before we start sending out individual emails inquiring whether you still want to play the character and requesting that the character make an appearance IG if you do. If you get one of those emails, you still have another month from there for your character to make an appearance somewhere IG. This means you technically have two months from now to get your alumni active, and no characters are getting booted out without notice!

As always, please remember to link your activity to the appropriate post in the [livejournal.com profile] fh_alumni comm.

Hey there! Special announcement for y'all.

Applications for the next term were meant to close at midnight last night/this morning, as mentioned in the original announcement and the reminder earlier this week, but we've just realized there was a typo on the FH profile page that showed a later date, which could have caused some confusion.

So to make sure nobody misses out, we're extending the deadline until tonight at 11:59 Pacific. If you've got a student or teacher app (especially teachers!) burning a hole in your GDocs, now's the time to get those babies in.

(Since we're here and all, other new semester things to visit if they might apply to you: Big Sibs/Teaching Buddies | Class Submissions - which also closed yesterday, but if you're running late, let us know today | New Roomie Requests)

To inform you (as if you didn't know) that half the game currently can't access their voicemail pages or read flists, and notifications are working for no one.

And also to inform you (which you probably didn't know) that Fandom seems to be in the same mood as Livejournal, oddly enough: mean.

So Crazy Phone Day is now Crazy Phone Two Days, and will extend into Friday.

(It was already off in the IC communities.)

If you need it for the anon lovememe or similar activities, just drop a message to the admin e-mail (administration at fandomhigh dot net) or catch one of us online, and we'll switch it back on temporarily!

This is to just let you know that the next Open Forum for the game will be this Saturday, June 2nd. (Continuing on, as it often does, into Sunday if needed.)

A friends-locked post will go up in this community in the morning (Eastern time) and will be open to all current players who want to make suggestions and raise issues they think should be discussed by the player base. There'll be OCD to make this easier. With subject lines, even!

The open forums are a place for people to bounce ideas around and get some discussion going. All we ask is that you be polite and considerate to each other. After that we'll round up all the issues that have been raised and get to work addressing them!

My carpet smells like latte, which is nice, but getting to drink it would have been nicer. :-(

The Heads-Up (Rrrrrrandom Event)

The weekend after next (Jan 28th/29th), Fandom will be up to its old gendershifting tricks. This time around it will be male to female only; the ladies will have their turn a little later on. (Players of characters who don't fit into a strict gender binary either physically or mentally are welcome to make their own call about whether/when/how the character will be affected.)

The Reminder (Open Forum)

The next Open Forum will be this Saturday, January 21st! As usual, a friends-locked post will go up in this community in the morning (Eastern time) and will be open to all current players who want to make suggestions and raise issues they think should be discussed by the player base. There will be OCD to make this easier, of course!

The open forums are a place for people to bounce ideas around and get some discussion going. All we ask is that you be polite and considerate to each other. After that we'll round up all the issues that have been raised and get to work addressing them!

Aaand Finally, the Traditional 'Where The Heck Do You People Live' Update!

It's time to catch up on who has job openings and residence vacancies, where our new grown-ups have settled in or our old ones have shifted, and any changes to your business info you'd like to make.

Please take a look through the OCD threads within, and if it applies to you, let us know.

Bonus Reminder: For everybody, students, teachers and townies alike, please take a moment to check out the user-info pages for your characters (yourjournalname.livejournal.com/profile) and make sure that they contain the required info listed here so that your fellow players can contact you if needed!

Hi, folks. We have some breaking news for you, so hold on to your mountie hats: Livejournal has worse design, usability, and customer service than Portalocity!

It's a shock to us, too, so we'll give you a minute to get your breath back.

Right, on to the pertinent information: LJ rolled out their new sitewide comments page in the middle of the night last night. This is the page you see if you have custom comment pages turned off -- like almost every RPer on LJ -- or if you're not logged in at all.

The new version, though it has a few new useful features, also breaks the heck out of comment organization and makes RP as we do it almost impossible. (It also screws up anonmemes/kinkmemes, among other fannish pursuits.)

Problems )

Workarounds for Now )

The FUTURE (imaginary sparkletext) )

In conclusion...

We hate this too. We're as frustrated with the update as you are, and we'll keep doing the best we can to make things work. We welcome your thoughts, questions, and suggestions!

We interrupt you from you BDE emo-recovery posts for a few quick reminders!

And the big one, applications for new students and teachers close at 11:59PM Pacific time on Sunday, August 14th! That's next Sunday. Yeah, we don't know where the summer's gone, either.

Finally we have two random events this week!

Tomorrow (Monday, August 8th), you will find chocolate everywhere: in the cabinets, under your bed, in your pillowcase...good stuff, not just Kisses or Reese's Pieces.

And on Saturday, August 13th, the only thing you will find on television will be weepy Hallmark ads or the Sarah McLachlan ad for the ASPCA about sad, abused animals. (Seriously, click only if you don't mind weeping copiously.)

Hey guys - based on some of the questions, we've added a few clarifications (which things require sign-ups and which are just a head-count), a sign-up thread for the other finale option (Let's Be Bad Guys!) and the sign-up deadline (11:59 pm on Wednesday, July 27th). So check out the updated version for more information/options!

Hello, Fandomites! Have you gotten comfy with the cowboys yet? Well, we sure hope you haven't, because this Saturday, some ne'er-do-wells from across the water are going to try and take your island!

How are they doing this? Why, by the Wild West's favorite brand of weapon, of course: clockwork spiders! Varying from being the size of your hand to the size of a small pony, these critters are going to be released on the island early in the morning, looking to kill or trap anyone they come across. They can skitter up any surface and leap great big distances, so be careful! You don't want them crawling around your face.

The completely moddable spiders will limp off to their evil makers that night, defeated... after a day of mayhem. Mwahahaha.

Questions? Bring all your boys in, here come the poison...

Lords, ladies, and esteemed personages of alternate or non-existent gender, we present for your enjoyment a cavalcade of upcoming Fandom Events, for all of your planning, plotting, and picture-procuring needs:

October 17th and 18th (Sun/Mon): Genderswap Day Days. That's right, your poor unsuspecting characters will, should you so choose, awaken on Sunday as a member of the opposite gender. (If your character doesn't have a gender, or has more than one, you get to pick one.) If they know Fandom history, they'll be expecting their sudden new equipment to wear off when they go to sleep on Sunday night. Surprise! Not so much.

October 22nd/23rd/24th (Fri/Sat/Sun): Homecoming Weekend. (More specific information on the scheduling of activities will show up closer to the date.)

November 5th (Fri): Once More With Fandom. In which (should you so choose) your characters will be uncontrollably bursting into song and revealing their innermost feelings. Or their love of cheese.

November 13th (Sat): Open Forum. For your OOC gameplay discussion needs.

Questions, comments, cheese?

BUGS! Yes, that kind.

Wednesday, August 11th, 2010 07:51 am
[identity profile] guardian-god.livejournal.com
Today it begins! The stolp bugs (no relation, we promise!) will start arriving in Fandom town throughout the day today (Wednesday). Feel free to mod their arrival in your homes along with the constant crooning of Celine Dion music and lyrics. It's certain to annoy many while pleasing few.

On Thursday, an announcement will be made inviting all to stay in the cabins for the duration of the extermination efforts, and teachers and townies will be welcomed into the cabins with open arms. For your OOC-planning needs, here is the adult cabin listing in gdoc form and a table, too. Bookmark at will or ignore entirely and sleep in front of the campfire. No one will judge.

Cut for tableness. )

Questions? Sudden desire to play the violin? Hit us here.
[identity profile] guardian-god.livejournal.com
In all the busy of the weekend, there was no reminder about our Adults in Cabins event, oops! Meaning we're extending the deadline for sign ups until 8am Eastern on Tuesday just in case there were any more townies or teachers needing a place to stay while the friendly NPC exterminators take care of business.

So go sign up!
[identity profile] suit-of-awesome.livejournal.com
I post this breaking news now before I get distracted by contacts commercials. Again. Anyway: have your session two cabin assignments and updated map.

If your character was left off or didn't end up paired with the person you requested, let me know! The general info dump about the cabins is here.

As a reminder, all students will be moving to the cabins on Sunday, July 18th and will stay in the cabins until Sunday, August 8th, so enjoy sorting out your dreams of the dead and hope you don't leave all your knickers in the dorms!

You're probably not used to seeing a post labeled that around this time of year, right? Don't worry, we haven't gone insane. When we asked for your plans here, some seniors weren't sure of their plans after the first term and we just wanted to iron all those details out since the second summer term is right around the corner.

So, if you have a senior that needs to nail down their plans (if they're going to return to the island after the backpacking trip, if they're not going to return, if you've decided to send them away after this term instead of keeping them etc), just ping in here (comments are screened) and let us know so we can make sure we've got everything right! Please try to get this in as soon as you can but by no later than Tuesday, June 29!

Thank you!

ETA: This post can also be used for those who have characters that aren't seniors that might have summer plans that have changed (if you're leaving for the second session, coming back, dropping the character, etc). Please let us know that as well!

[identity profile] just-add-starch.livejournal.com
As promised, we're here to bring you the latest information about our new community center! Starting Saturday, June 19, the community center will be OPEN to be used by townies, teachers and students alike. The tag to use is 'community center' if you're going to have your character utilize the new building.

Now, for the good stuff. What's inside ye olde community center? Well, there's an auditorium area that's large enough to hold dances in (it's where our gala event/summer dance is going to occur). This room can be used for birthday parties, dances, or anything else that might need a large space. The community center will also be home to several smaller classrooms. These classrooms can be used for small meetings, clubs, get togethers, and smaller parties. Each classroom contains tables and chairs that can be used as seen fit.

There is also a day care center! Yes parents, your wish has come true. The day care center will be staffed with top notch NPCs that can care for your child while you're at work, on a date, or doing anything else that might require babysitting. The community center will also contain a computer center! This room will hold several computers that can be used for whatever the character might need. And lastly, there will also be a small library in the center. This library is staffed by an NPC and doesn't have quite the selection the school library does but it has enough to get by.

Please feel free to start using this new establishment as soon as it opens. There's no need to ask permission from the admins to use any of the classrooms or auditoriums unless it's going to be involved in a plot that you'd need to tell us about anyway, or the activity involves damage or permanent changes to the setting!

Questions? Comments?

Hiya! I'm interrupting your gaming experience and my normal sleeping time to let you that applications for the second summer session end this Sunday, as in the 20th. So you got six days.

Hey, y'all!

There's been some completely justified uncertainty about what to do and fill out if you'd like to bring an alumnus/ex-pat back or shift from one on-island position to another.

We've discussed it and come up with a set of transfer guidelines (linked on the [livejournal.com profile] fandomhigh user-info now) that should cover all the possibilities! (Until some smarty-pants throws a scenario at us that we didn't think of.)

We wanted to get the info out there while apps are still open (psst - they close on the 20th) in case it applies to anyone's plans for the next session, so here it is!

Questions? Cupcakes? Puppies?
[identity profile] suit-of-awesome.livejournal.com
We're interrupting your regularly scheduled gameplay for a quick announcement!

This Saturday, June 5, we're going to hold our first ever gamewide How's My Driving meme. As discussed in our Open Forum wrap-up, the HMD meme (like any other meme) is completely voluntary and allows FH players to offer and receive constructive criticism anonymously or non-anonymously depending on the receiving player's preference.

A friends-locked post will go up Saturday morning in [livejournal.com profile] fandomhigh_ooc, linking to an unlocked post elsewhere where those who want to participate can ping themselves in to give and receive constructive criticism. The HMD will start on Saturday but can run for as long as needed. If you don't get to ping in on Saturday, you're more than welcome to ping in on Sunday or Monday. We'll post reminders so everyone who wants one gets a chance to participate!

End of announcement. You can go play again.
[identity profile] flipped-god-off.livejournal.com
You heard about it, you talked about it, and now... Here it is! The construction of your community center is about to begin, Fandom!

Hold your applause, hold your applause.

Now all we need are people to build it. Starting Thursday, May 20, we will break ground--so to speak--on this project and ask for townies, teachers and alumni to pitch in and help build what will hopefully be a wonderful addition to our fair island.

A post will go up once a week on Monday and ANYONE can pitch in with the construction. ANYONE. Townies, teachers, students, visiting alums, anyone. If you are a student wanting help with the community project, this is where you'd wanna be! This construction will be taking place on 27 Chimera and will offer plenty of opportunity for ogling the pretty people on the island.

The NPC Construction Crew will be out each day though (even those when there's no post) so you can feel free to mod seeing the building going up. (They'll also be spending some time over on the new part of the island adding more business spaces on Godiva Street. There's not going to be a grand opening for those; they'll just be added to the map for new townies to set up shop in.) Once the building is completed on June 19, we'll make another post letting everyone know what's contained within the center and it will be open for business! We will also be celebrating the grand opening with a gala event in the form of a summer dance! This dance will be open to EVERYONE including townies, alumni and expatriates!
[identity profile] decoder-rings.livejournal.com
Good morning, evening, afternoon or anything in between! Whatever time it is where you are, I hope it's treating you well! We've just got a few important reminders for you for this morning!

  • Graduation guests are due by TODAY, April 28. If you want family and friends to come to see your senior graduate, make sure you sign them up TODAY!
  • Senior plans are due by April 30th! Please let us know what your senior's going to be doing after they graduate!

And since sharing tiems is always fun, tell me players, what's the worst injury you've ever had? Because, seriously, we were all kids (or we're clumsy) and sharing war stories is always interesting. Me? Someone once dumped a bowl of scalding water on my thigh. HUGE second degree burn. Worst pain I have EVER FREAKING FELT IN MY LIFE.
[identity profile] see-beyond.livejournal.com
Hello, good morning, good evening, good afternoon and everything in between! It's Wednesday so we're halfway to the weekend and that's always good! We've got a few reminders for you today:

Now, with those all outta the way, tell me what your ultimate GOTTA TURN IT UP AND SING song(s) are! The song(s) that demand you sing loudly and off key no matter where you are!
[identity profile] decoder-rings.livejournal.com
Good afternoon Fandomites! Tomorrow (Sunday, April 18), we're going to be having a fire drill! DUN DUN DUN! And, like most of our fire drills, the weather is going to play havoc. So, when the fire drill goes off and the students trek outside, they're going to be met by chocolate syrup rain and marshmallow hail. Might want to bring a spoon and a bowl if you're hungry! The fire drill post will go up sometime in the early afternoon hours (between 1 and 3 pm EST) but will be set for late late late Sunday night (after radio late, that is). Mmm, Fandom safety never tasted so good!

The original idea for the fire drills rests solely with [livejournal.com profile] trickster_twin (so you can thank her for the continued insanity) and examples of our previous fire drills are here and here!
[identity profile] guardian-god.livejournal.com
Attention all, yes ALL! This year when the Fandom Weetinies strikes, it will attack ALL island residents at the same time! Students, teachers, and townies alike will wake up April 24th as pint-sized versions of themselves.

As a reminder, or for those who haven't played with weetiny characters before:
  • Participation is completely optional!
  • If you choose to participate, your character needs to wake up as a kid on Saturday morning and stay that way the whole weekend until waking up back to normal on Monday morning.
  • The kids won't be terrified to wake up in Fandom, due to the wackiness. It's more like they've always been here.
  • Clothing will be shrunk down as well, and all the weapons will turn into toys so no one can hurt themselves accidentally.
  • This is open to alumni and expats as well!
  • Rejoice in the direction of [livejournal.com profile] guardianborn for the idea to open it to all!

winter carnival!

[identity profile] see-beyond.livejournal.com
Hello!

We know we've hit you with some of the worst aspects of winter but, come January 30-31, we're going to bring you some of the better aspects! On that weekend, Fandom is going to host a winter carnival, complete with polar bear waiters and ice skating penguins. Okay, maybe not those things but still! It's going to be similar in nature to the carnival that's typically held during Homecoming (and please see here for an idea of how the sign ups work) with a few modifications for the season. All alumni and expatriates are welcome to come back to the island for this event!

The carnival will begin on Saturday and will continue on Sunday for maximum fun. Sign up below if you'd like your character to have a kissing booth, a pie tossing booth or to have them dunked in the hot (not scalding) fudge tank!

Thank you!

As I'm sure all of you know, applications for the spring semester have now closed! We thank everyone that submitted and look forward to an exciting next semester.

Now, I'm on vacay, it's Monday, so let's see your naked icons. SHOW THEM TO ME, GAME I LOVE.

So, ever noticed how we have this great population of alumni and ex-pats who so rarely get hand-engraved invitations back to visit their beloved Fandom Island? Meanwhile, a bunch of people are trapped all by their lonesome in their own dimension, living out fanfiction lives. Well, times, they are a'changing!

Effective immediately, no more do alumni/expats need to be invited or submit a proposal to stop by Fandom for lunch or even for a few days visit!

admin email!

Good morning everyone!

We just wanted to give a quick heads up as a precautionary measure. Yesterday, the admin inbox filled up and we didn't catch it for a few hours (Katie found over 3000 emails about gay porn, greeting cards, losing weight, and bettering ourselves in bed) so things started bouncing. If you sent us something yesterday and did not get a confirm, please either re-send it (as it probably bounced off an email about toning one's love muscle) or check with one of us to see if we received it and just didn't get the confirm out.

Thank you!

P.S: I used this icon because Sam loves it.

sixth floor update!

Good afternoon (and sad afternoon since Andy Roddick just lost in Wimbledon WOE FOR ME)!

We just wanted to make a quick announcement to let everyone know about a change to one of the rooms on the sixth floor. After some discussion, we've decided to modify the padded room into a multipurpose room in the vein of the Danger Shop. It will have two settings: (1) a physical safe room of your own design or a (2) psychically and magically shielded meditation room of your own design. Those who wish to use this room will be able to pick which environment they are using and pre-set a release time for when they are finished utilizing the room or not lock it at all, if they don't have a need to.

Thank you!

brand new pretty things!

As we announced earlier, the sixth floor of the dorms was renovated and completely redone. Now that the job's complete you are free to use any of the new attractions described in that post. As a reminder, the sixth floor now contains: full dining room with attached kitchen, a full dance floor with a pole and a disco ball, a ballpit, an art studio, and a padded room.  Tags have been created and you're free to use these establishments as you would a common room in the [livejournal.com profile] fandomhighdorms comm (save for the padded room).

So, go forth and enjoy your new sixth floor!

Hello Friends!

As most of you know, the sixth floor was been undergoing extensive renovation to make use of all that space up there. And, while the renovation and reconstruction is still taking place, we wanted to let you know what's going up there after all the brainstorming we did a month ago.

At this time, we're installing a full dining room with attached kitchen. The space is common room sized so it's large enough to be used for holiday dinners and the like. The kitchen will also be fully stocked so anything your kid would like to make can be prepared in this kitchen. All we ask is that you don't blow it up!

A full dance floor (with a pole and a disco ball) is also being installed in another common room sized space. There will be a few chairs along the wall but, other than that, this area is for dancing only.

There is also a ballpit. Yes, it's just what it sounds like: a pit of brightly colored balls that your student can jump and play in. BALLPIT.

Have an artist type? Good because the sixth floor is also going to contain an art studio! It'll be fully moddable (though the kiln will still be located in the school's art classroom since kilns emanate a lot of heat and a very pungent aroma) to allow all to paint, sketch, sculpt, knit, and embrace their creative sides in the art studio.

And finally, the sixth floor will also contain a padded room. This room is a working safe space. If you choose to use the padded room for a transformation or whatever, the door will be locked from the outside for the duration of your characters stay and he/she will not be permitted to escape. (If you want your character to escape for plotty reasons, please use the abandoned shack in the woods as the dorms must remain a safe space for all students.)

Oh, and there's still going to be access to the old common room closet from the very early days of the floor. That closet leads to many a wacky room (that [livejournal.com profile] bridge_carson might be able to detail further) and it's not going anywhere.

The rest of the area is going to be open space that we can use if we come up with other things that we'd like to install.

Questions? Comments? Mmm icon for dance pole!

Announcement: DANCE!

Because we'd discussed running more on-island alumni and expatriate mingling activities, on Saturday, June 27th, Fandom High will be hosting a summer dance that will be open to everyone.

That's a big party, yes. The dance will be set for Saturday evening and the town will also host a brunch Sunday morning. Alumni/expats are invited into town starting Friday night, the 26th, and are expected to hit the road by Monday morning.

Starting today, characters can have handwavily received invitations to a weekend in Fandom. Students, teachers, and townies can also assume a handwavey announcement was made about the dance.

It's almost that time!

Hey guys!

We interrupt your Thursday to let you know that student and teacher applications for second summer session will be opening Sunday, May 31st. Yes, this Sunday.

So start getting the ideas going! For those who, like me, can never decide between potentials, now is the time to start bugging your friends, open a tab for the RNG, or pray to the Zefron for guidance. Yes, I stole most of this post from Sam. Deal with it.

Okay, now you can go back to your normal FH fun or go play in the meme.

We just have a few announcements for you on this lovely, HOT Tuesday. And if it's not hot where you are, YOU BEST BE SENDING THE COOL AIR TO ME. Ahem.

Anyway, first of all, in the past, we've only let alumni attend graduation without needing to be invited. We're changing that up and also allowing all expatriate characters to attend graduation without an invitation from an graduating senior. So, make plans and come join us for this weekend's graduation!

And second of all, EMAIL IS BAAAAAAAAAAACK UP. So, if you sent a confirm email to us last night after 1030PM EST and haven't resent it, please do so now to the admin email. Thanks for your patience everyone!

Good morning out there (or good evening for all you weird future dwellers)!

This is just a reminder that the submission period for all early applications will end on April 19, 2009 at midnight PST. So, if you fall into that category (as detailed here), make sure you get your application in as soon as possible!

Thank you!

Good afternoon!

Just a quick note that will impact a few of our players. After some careful discussion, we've decided that all players in non United States timezones will no longer be allowed at Fandom High. It's just too hard to coordinate timezones and the like around those of you who live in the future or in the past. We're going to allow you time to wrap up story lines but, unless you choose to move to the United States, your comm access will be revoked and you will no longer be allowed to apply again.

It's just easiest on us all. There are too many timezones and we just cannot keep up anymore.

Thanks for your time and patience with us! We look forward to working with all those just in the United States in the future!

ETA: Please see this comment for additional information on other character developments. We're hopeful this is going to be a great move for us!

Hey everyone! We wanted to take a minute before major zombie madness starts for an announcement.

A few weeks ago, the admins were contacted by the LiveJournal abuse team. In their e-mail, we received complaints about some of the publically posted underage sex in the game, and separate complaints from a handful of publishers concerning copyright of characters. In addition, it's become abundantly clear to us that LiveJournal's servers are not as robust as they used to be. There's been considerable periods of slowness, random error messages, and complete downtime that have made playing far more difficult.

With these two things in mind, we've decided that as of May 9th - the start of the summer semester - Fandom High will be moving to DeadJournal. We chose DeadJournal over the other services available because, well, it's dead, and this is good for us in two ways: one, everyone should be able to claim their exact same journal names over there, and two, with no one else really using the service, we won't have to worry about loads of users slowing the servers, or taking them down completely.

We'll have more information for you all as the moving day approaches, so for now, just mark your calendars so you don't miss the date!

Hola! Apparently, just because I'm no longer an admin doesn't mean I can't still spam the flist.

So, as you know, Robin is our current Deputy Mayor. While this position is basically just Cable's second-in-command, it does mean that Robin gets to fulfill some other townie-like obligations.

One such obligation, which will be enforced starting immediately, is that Robin will now be what is being informally called the Townie Den Mother (tm...someone not me. I wanna say it was [livejournal.com profile] spring_lost.) This position will apply when a new townie enters the game -- Robin will, essentially, be their Big Sibling/Townie Buddy/whatever you want to think of it as, and I'll OOCly be taking on the role.

Because townie apps don't occur in the same volume as teacher or student ones, it'll just be part of Robin's job, and I'll be available OOC to any players of new townies who have questions, the same way a Big Sib would.

Like I said, this won't apply to anyone without a new townie, but I figured I'd explain the new policy officially so that it's not confusing when my girl's suddenly chatting up your new townie. :)

Any questions? Comments? I have key lime pie yogurt, but I'd like some offers of the real thing. Or naked icons.
