Rhetorical question; sadly I've lived here long enough to know the answer.

In news you actually care about, the website is up, and it did turn out to be just a page-replace thing, so e-mail was never down. Everything's been restored from yesterday's backup, nothing's been lost because we haven't changed anything between then and now, and I need Tylenol and all the coffee.

Website Issues!

We seem to be having some trouble with the FH website servers right now (once every app period, I swear). That means we won't be receiving any emails or apps on the main admin email address right now, so if you need to contact us, please email one or more individual admins. If you've sent in any apps in the past few hours, you'll want to do so again when the website's back up.

ETA: And we seem to be back!

Son of ETA: Our webhost seems to continue to have some intermittent problems. So if you have your app open on our website somewhere, please check whether it's still up before submitting.

Ladies and gentlemen, I give you something that may just change your plots (or save your sanity):

Built by me, explained in a helpful instruction page by Relly, and graciously hosted by our beloved mind-controlling overlords:

The Fandom High LiveJournal Preplay Coder.

This will automatically generate preplay code tables, from some copy-and-pasting found on Firefox's "View Selection Source" page. (Don't worry, there are instructions on how to do that.)

You'll have to do some general clean-up: watch for OOC comments, move things which were pinged out of order, etc, and you might want to search and replace to fix the names, but this will give you nearly finished code in a matter of seconds.

I accept tribute in the form of naked icons. Or mild applause. Or whatever.

Well, it wouldn't be application season if this didn't happen at least once. It seems that fandomhigh.net is down, which means the admin e-mail address is down as well. Please hold on to your applications and adminly queries, and we'll let you know when everything comes back up. Thanks!

ETA: And we're back! Thank you for your patience!
[identity profile] satedan-soldier.livejournal.com
As seems to be a trend during app periods, fandomhigh.net is currently down, which means both the admin address and the application form are down. Until further notice, please hold onto your adminly emails and applications. Thanks for bearing with us!

ETA: It seems to be up and running now. EMAIL AND APP AWAY!
[identity profile] canadianpopstar.livejournal.com
Hi hi! For some as-of-yet-unknown reason, fandomhigh.net is having the hiccups. As a result, the admin email is down as well. If you've sent us an email in the last few hours, you might want to consider sending it to one of our personal addresses listed in our userinfo, and we'll pass it around until things get up and running again. (This also goes for any really pressing admin matters that need to be emailed to us, until further notice.)

Cross your fingers while we poke at it!

ETA: LOL JK JK it's back.

In the continuing trend of the internet conspiring against us (WTF AIM, WTF?), fandomhigh.net is currently down, which means both the admin address and the application form are down. Until further notice, please direct all adminly e-mails to [email protected], and please hold onto your applications.

ETA: We're back up, folks. Thanks for your patience. :)

Hey guys!

We're having some issues with the fandomhigh.net domain being down at the moment. We're aware of the problem, and we ask that for the moment you direct all E-mails to [email protected] and we'll reply as quickly as possible. This also means that the application form isn't currently available. Please hold off on sending any in until we give the heads up that everything's back up, just to make sure that your app isn't lost. Please also pass on the message to any friends who may be preparing an application.

Thanks!
[identity profile] ismyhairout.livejournal.com
Hey folks,

We're having some problems with the fandomhigh.net domain at the moment. Please direct all emails for the admin team to [email protected] and we'll respond as promptly as possible. Due to the technical difficulties, the application form is not currently available. Please hold off on sending in any applications until we give the heads up that the site is back up and running as your application may be lost along the way. Please also pass the message on to any friends you have who might be preparing an application.

More news as we have it.
[identity profile] canadianpopstar.livejournal.com
The site is working again, as is the admin email and the application form.

To be on the safe side, however, do not assume we got an app until you get a confirmation email from us! (Which should be the standard MO anyway.)

You may all now return to your normal gameplay and crack and whatnot.

Email/Website Update
The [email protected] email address and the fandomhigh.net website are back up and running!

******

Reminder

If you are a student or teacher going away or returning for Term 2, please let us know immediately! We can't accommodate you if we don't know whether you're going to be around or not.

******

Workshops Needed!

Want to teach a workshop next term? This is open to teachers, townies and this year's graduates.

What's Needed:

* The ability to come up with 7 workshops (one per week) that give the students something to do
* The ability to post the workshop by 12pm PST the day it's scheduled (you can post the night before)
* The ability to interact with your students (SP is fine for this, you don't need to be around all the time)

Think you can handle that? Give it a try! Summer is the only time that townies and graduates can teach and it's only half a semester's worth of classes.

Teachers who do not wish to teach but want to stay in Fandom must have a job in town or start a community club that they run once a week.

Graduates who do not wish to teach but want to stay in Fandom must have a TAship (arranged yourself) or work on the school construction effort.

It's your responsibility to make sure that your character is doing something that they are supposed to be doing.

Everyone who wishes to teach a workshop for Term 2 should comment here with the following details filled out.

Character Name:
Workshop Name:
Workshop Synopsis:
(a description including any ideas you have for individual classes so far)
Please list your top two preferred days: (Monday to Friday. You'll need to post your workshop by 12pm PST on this day. You can post the night before if that works better for you.)
Anything else we need to know?

It's totally okay to repeat a workshop from the first term. If you want to teach, but need some help brainstorming what you'd teach, feel free to contact any of the admins or mods and we're happy to help.

Deadline for submissions is Monday, June 25.

Comments are screened!

Two things!

1) The admin email address is still down. You can send emails to [email protected] and we'll get them. Sending to [email protected] won't get through. Woe.
2) Applications close on Sunday! Get 'em in!

We'll let you know when the site and email is fixed. Hopefully soon.
[identity profile] ismyhairout.livejournal.com
Hey folks,

fandomhigh.net has been down for the last 12-14 hours. If you sent us an email today or last night, we did not receive it. Please forward it on to [email protected] for now. We'll let you know when the original address is working again.

If you submitted an application today or last night, please resend. The form is now accessible again. You may notice an error after you submit (when the form redirects you to www.fandomhigh.net but rest assured it will go through).

Also, please remember that if you do not receive a notification email from us within 24 hours of sending your app, contact us! We may not have received the app. You have to contact us before apps close or there's not much we can do.

We've passed the problem up to our kind and benevolent tech monkey, so hopefully things will be fixed soon.

I should have mentioned this yesterday, but fandomhigh.net is up and running again as of yesterday morning. Therefore, e-mails to the admin address are coming through as normal.

In an unrelated topic, I want to give cake to all of our players. I don't have cake, though, so that want will go unfulfilled. Sorry about that.
[identity profile] bugofjustice.livejournal.com
Hey folks. fandomhigh.net has been pretty spotty throughout the day. If you've sent an e-mail to the admin address today, there's a chance that we didn't receive it. Hopefully this is all cleared up soon. Until then, if you urgently need to contact the admins, you can send an e-mail to our personal addresses as linked in our profiles. You only need to send it to one of us. We'll be sure to forward it to the others.

Thank you!
[identity profile] notthetindog.livejournal.com
You can now filter the character directory results by year in school. If you run into any bugs due to this, let me know (the additions were not thoroughly tested).

FandomHigh.net Down

Thursday, January 11th, 2007 10:39 am
[identity profile] notthetindog.livejournal.com
FandomHigh.net has gone down due to hardware issues on the host server (it's hosted on my Virtual Private Server, which is one of many on a larger node -- it's the node that's gone down). I'll let you know when it's back up. *grumbles*

ETA: Back up! Win!
[identity profile] freelancerchick.livejournal.com
We discovered last night that apparently the service (BraveNet) we use for the application forms might have failed us as we know for sure that at least one application never made it to our inbox. I am really keeping my fingers crossed and hoping this only happened once.

Still, if you applied and never received an answer from us that is probably what happened. We would like to apologise profusedly for this and we will try to come up with a solution to prevent it from ever happening again.

Feel free to hit me up on AIM or email if you have any concerns. I apologise for any inconvenience this might have caused.
[identity profile] bugofjustice.livejournal.com
I didn't want to clog up the Homecoming post with other stuff, but there are a couple things to note tonight.

First, fandomhigh.net was down again, meaning that any e-mails sent to the admin address on Sunday afternoon or evening may not have come through in a timely manner.

Second, FH.net - which is not affiliated with the Fandom High game in any way that I'm aware of - is the end of the internet. That makes me wonder if there's a secret affiliation that took place before I became admin. *looks around for conspiracy threads*

Third, some guy on [livejournal.com profile] lj_research did a study of social networks on LJ and noted that a very large percentage of the larger social communities (sociological term, not technical LJ term) on LJ are made up of RPGs. One of the two RPGs cited was Fandom High, and the left side of the graph (that I don't actually understand but it has our name on there with an arrow next to it so whatever) is represented by [livejournal.com profile] future_visions. It's pretty cool stuff, even if I don't follow exactly what it's talking about.
[identity profile] notthetindog.livejournal.com
*sigh* Sorry. Standard. Website. E-mail. Down.

Stupid router.
[identity profile] notthetindog.livejournal.com
The site's back up. E-mail's back up. I'm working on a devious plan to make sure we never have this amount of downtime again.
[identity profile] notthetindog.livejournal.com
Profusely sorry about this. The server itself is actually fine. The problem is that there's a router that's blocking everyone from getting to it except downtown Los Angeles -- which is fairly useless to me. The sysadmins at work having been trying to fix the issue for a day now, but they are in downtown LA and they can see the thing just fine. Makes things difficult.

Until further notice, please do not use your fandomhigh.net forwarding addresses.

And believe me, when I get back to work on Sunday, I'm gonna have some words with some folks.

ETA: And we're back. Oh sweet relief!
[identity profile] bruiser-in-pink.livejournal.com
There is currently an issue with some thingy that makes the server work (Look at my tech speak!) or connect or something. So, none of the fandomhigh.net email addresses are working right now. Including the admin address. There is nothing that we can do about it at this time.

If you need to contact the admins, please email one of us individually and we will pass it along. Also, it has apparently been down for a few hours. If you sent anything to the admin email address this afternoon, you might want to take a chance and resend it to one of us.
[identity profile] notthetindog.livejournal.com
Hello all! While Mickey Smith will be the IG webmaster of fandomhigh.net, Mickey Smith's player is the OOC webmaster. Nice how the two things diverge, eh? Well, I've been working to make the site bigger, faster, stronger and the first thing I did for that is the shiny new directory at

http://www.fandomhigh.net/directory.php

Some functions that you may remember from previous incarnations of the directory have been removed, but that's to make way for some other features that will be terribly useful. Trust me, I have stuff in the works that's going to ... well, it's going to be neat, I can say that much.

The directory is current strictly OOC. Mickey hasn't built it IG yet and it's going to take him all week. I'll let you know when it's up IG.

Anyway. If you need anything web-wise, let me know. I'll be dropping in a couple times over the next week or so with other news as it comes up.

FandomHigh.net Update

Thursday, March 30th, 2006 07:17 pm
[personal profile] fh_extras
(do not be alarmed by the green floaty head -- it's merely Data Central from JLA, the Grant Morrison years. It will be the new "hey, website" icon).

Hokay. So the deal is that we have a sweet new server for fandomhigh.net. However, as with any server change, it's going to be a little nuts for a bit. Some dropped e-mails and whatnot. Nothing to be worried about per se, but keep it in mind in case of wonkiness.

After that, I'm hoping to upgrade the site to be super-swank. Of course, that's just one of many projects on my poor, overburdened programming plate, so it may take some time.

If you have any issues, e-mail data DOT central AT fandomhigh.net and I will fix them.
[identity profile] flinkmeister.livejournal.com
Here's the deal: when I go, fandomhigh.com goes with me. It's a free perk of my employment at my company, and it'd be wrong to give it up to somebody else, even if I love them very much.

So, to rectify this, I purchased ya'll a full year of hosting on FandomHigh.net and transferred everything over directly. Files, e-mail addresses, everything. Functionality should continue nearly uninterrupted (one or two things I still have to work on, of course).

So. If you've got a fandomhigh.com e-mail address, I'd suggest changing any reference to it to .net. I'll leave the e-mail addresses on the .com, but be aware that after I've gone, that domain's becoming my personal testing playground for PHP applications. .net is the place to be, yo.
[identity profile] flinkmeister.livejournal.com
1) If you've requested an e-mail address and I haven't gotten back to you, poke me here.

2) The School Directory is woefully outdated. If you're not in there and you should be, let me know. If there's someone who's in there and they should not be, let me know.

3) I'm very disorganized right now, which is IC but not fun. If you've volunteered to do a section of the website, sound off here with which section that is and if I've given you the go-ahead to work on it. I know there's at least one area where I've had multiple requests and assigned no-one.

4) Despite my previous freak-out, it's perfectly acceptable to link to the website from your userinfo, since your userinfo makes it perfectly clear that you are a character in an RP. Liability in that scenario is minimal. Thanks to the few kind offers to move the site, but the flipside of the coin is that I have to maintain this account for work purposes.
[identity profile] flinkmeister.livejournal.com
It has to come down. At the very least, we need to remove the link to the site, but in all fairness, we need to take it down. Here's why:

Wherein the player might get fired from his job )

Help Me Help You

Friday, October 14th, 2005 05:49 pm
[identity profile] flinkmeister.livejournal.com
Here's the deal: coding the website, I can do. Writing the whole thing, I cannot. While I'm up to the task of doing the Student Handbook (as that needs to be an admin job anyway), there's areas of the website that need to be written.

So, I come to you, the players, because I know you all want the website to be awesome and I would be grateful for the help. Below are some sections of the website that need doing.

Please do NOT volunteer for a section of the website unless you are absolutely 100% sure that you will be able to have it complete by November 1st. I'm not going to play the "waiting for the train that doesn't come" game. Commit to the project or move on. I'm not impressed by signing-up. I'm impressed by signing-up and then finishing the job.

Items marked with HTML will require HTML knowledge.

-- About Page: I need a better IC description of the school and its function. Make it sound like real PR copy.

-- Faculty Directory (HTML): A listing of the members of faculty, their department, and pertinent information like office hours and links like voicemail/e-mail. Space for a small, icon-size picture.

-- Student Council: Currently there's a page for the candidates. I'd like to see a page regarding the Council's members and projects. Whoever takes this on may be looking at regularly submitting updates past the November 1st date (the basic gist of that page/area will need to be in place by that time, though). Student Council member preferable for this job. If it fits with your IC position, all the better

-- Fandom Clinic: Needs its own page. Description of operating hours, services, possibly of staff.

-- Fandom Dorms: PR copy on our dorms. Think college website trying to sell the comforts of on-campus living to prospective students. Some images would be nice. Multiple pages okay, so long as you clear the structure with me first.

-- Clubs: A listing of all active clubs and their faculty advisor.

-- Individual Club Pages: Each club will be allowed its own page on the site, provided that they write it themselves.

-- Fandom Townies (HTML): I know someone offered to design this back in the day. It needs to have a different design and purpose. Whoever does this needs to be savvy to HTML, image-editing, and FTP (as I will be giving them separate upload access). Make it as cheesy or snazzy as you like, just make sure the information is there.

If you'd like one of these pages/sections, please e-mail me ([email protected]) with your name (real or character), e-mail, and, in the case of HTML pages, past design experience. Applications in the comments will pointed to the e-mail address or ignored.

Thank you for your help, in advance.

Also, I know there's a few web functions that the site needs. Somebody created a Yahoo Calendar. I agree we need a calendar, but both Spider and I are in agreement that all game materials need to be kept between LJ and FandomHigh.com to reduce confusion and searching. I myself haven't ever been to this calendar and only know of it by reputation.

If there's a section you'd like the site to have, or a function you'd like it to perform, let me know. I'll see what I can do.
